Pre-Event-Dinner at Borchers Hamburg: The Perfect Start to the NDL Roadtrip

Before diving into a day full of insights, innovation, and networking at the NDL Roadtrip, we started with a relaxed pre-event dinner at Restaurant Borchers in Hamburg.

The evening provided the perfect opportunity for participants and partners to connect in an informal setting, exchange ideas, and get to know each other before the official program began. Over delicious food and great conversations, new connections were made and known faces reunited.

Roadtrip agenda:  German top farms and their expectations of the industry

The NDL Roadtrip 2026 brought together dairy farmers, industry experts, researchers, and technology providers for two inspiring days of learning, networking, and farm visits across northern Germany.

Our journey began with a Pre-Event Dinner at Restaurant Borchers in Hamburg, where participants had the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas before the official program started.

On Day 1, the group traveled by bus from Hamburg to Gut Hülsenberg, where Achim Hoffmann from ISF Forschung introduced current research projects and innovations in dairy farming. The roadtrip then continued to Gut Hohen Luckow, featuring a presentation by Dr. Stefan Borchardt (Freie Universität Berlin) on improving dairy herd health monitoring and reproductive management through automated monitoring technologies. A guided farm tour by Martin Moos provided valuable insights into practical applications on modern dairy farms. The first day concluded with a screening of Alltech’s documentary “World Without Cows” The documentary invited participants to reflect on the role of cows in our food systems, agriculture, rural communities, and the environment around the world.

The second day started with a visit to Milchhof Vietlübbe. We had an inspiring farm tour guided by Peter Steenwijk, followed by presentations from leading technology providers. Flexora showcased its sensor technology solutions, while Alta/DairyComp demonstrated how data-driven herd management can help farmers better understand and optimize cow performance. After a final lunch together, participants returned by bus to Hamburg, concluding a successful roadtrip filled with knowledge sharing and valuable discussions.

The NDL Roadtrip once again demonstrated the importance of connecting research, technology, and practical farming experience. Through farm visits, expert presentations, and open dialogue, participants gained new perspectives on the future of dairy farming and the role digital solutions will play in shaping a more efficient and sustainable industry.

We would like to thank all speakers, hosts, partners, and participants for making the NDL Roadtrip 2026 such a memorable experience. We look forward to seeing you again on the next journey of innovation and collaboration.
